Happy (late) birthday Alex!

With all of the birthday party planning and end of the year stuff, I realized I forgot to wish a happy birthday to the first child to show me how special being a mom could be.

  • I remember going into the doctor's office thinking "I'm not in labor.  I have 5 more weeks to go!"  Wrong.

  •  I remember the room being crowded with your dad, a doctor, a nurse, 3 nurses and a cart from NICU, and 3 more interns standing outside the door (since there was no more room inside), observing.

  •  I remember your little cone head as you were born, since the doctor had to use a suction pump-thing to get you out, you were so big.

  • I remember the doctor announcing "It's a boy!", and a minute or two later, the NICU team saying "He's not one of ours!", meaning that you were healthy enough to be in the normal maternity ward instead of NICU.

  •  I remember your dad and I bringing you home, setting your car seat down on the floor in front of us, and then looking at each other like "now what do we do?"

  • I remember you walking at 7 months.

  • I remember all of your laughs, smiles, hugs, kisses, and snuggles.

I am proud of the boy that you have become, and love you very much.
