I've been wanting to read aloud to the kids, but the timing is just never right. So lately I've been letting them stay up a little later in their rooms while I finish putting Cubby to sleep, and then we all snuggle into a bed to read a chapter. So far it's going really well. We just finished up "21 Balloons" and are working on "The 13 Clocks". We've also already read "Pippi Longstocking", "Mr. Popper's Penguins", and the "My Father's Dragon" series.
Some of the books that I would like to read aloud with them are:
1. The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews (yes, THAT Julie Andrews)
2. The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald
3. The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
4. The Tales of Olga da Polga by Michael Bond
5. Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting
6. Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
I'm debating about the Phantom Tollbooth. I LOVE that book, but I don't think I appreciated it until I was older, so I'm not sure if it's worth our time now.
Anyone have any more suggestions?
