The weather has finally cooled down this week, so it feels as though it is actually fall. Fall is one of my favorite seasons...maybe because it's apple season as well, and I love apples. Apple pie, applesauce, apple dumplings, apple muffins, apple crisp, apple cookies ~ well, you get the picture. We're fortunate enough to have an apple tree on the property line, so both the neighbors and our family get plenty of apples. In fact, this year James and the neighbor (who is also named James) had to pick the entire tree as it became ripe, because the branches were breaking from the weight of the apples! James and James spent an entire afternoon, and my James brought home about 5 plastic bags full of apples. There are a few at the top that they couldn't reach, however.
They're good baking apples, not so good for eating. But that's fine with me. I now have several apple pies in the freezer, as well as some homemade applesauce. The kids and I are making apple muffins when they get up from nap, and there's apple cider in the fridge to heat up. Life is good.
