Bitten by the travel bug

Sometimes Alex amazes me with his interests.  He loves dinosaurs, cars, and destroying things, like most other little boys.  But one of his main interests lately has been learning about new places and cultures.

It all started the beginning of this summer, when I asked him what he wanted to learn about over the summer, and he answered "Mandarin Chinese".  While we didn't dive into chinese too much, we did learn a few words in it, and learned a lot about the country and culture.  Now we're working on Mexico.  He loves hearing about new places, whether they're far away or nearer to home.

His favorite books to check out lately have been a series of books at the library on each state.  They look like this:
And he always has at least 2 checked out at a time.  The most recent ones are Michigan and South Dakota.  He was fascinated by our visit to Mount Rushmore this summer, so he's really into that.  He even sat still for over an hour to watch Modern Marvels: Mount Rushmore on TV.  (Thank goodness for the instant queue on Netflix!)
